He predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will. Ephesians 1:5

Throughout the Bible God used adoptees to do his will and save his people. Moses was placed in a basket by his mother to float down the Nile River in order to save his life after Pharaoh ordered all Hebrew boys killed. Pharaoh's daughter adopted Moses as her own son and raised him in the palace. As an adult, God called Moses to lead the nation of Israel out of captivity from Egypt and toward the Promised Land all because Moses' adoptive relationship put him in a position of influence.

God sent His own Son to earth to have an adoptive father, Joseph. Jesus shared the love of Joseph and his name but not his blood or genes. God chose Joseph to love his Son and nourished his life. Relationships are keenly important to God, and love is the foundation to every lasting relationship.

Perhaps there is no better correlation on earth for the way God draws into His family than adoption. When you choose to bring a child home that was not born into that family and make the decision to love that child unconditionally you experience how God calls each of us to become part of His family, promising us never to leave us.
